From The Greensborough Patriot

From The Greensborough Patriot

Feb. 20, 1862 – Pg. 3

Maj. J. F. Gilmer.

The Savannah Republican says—“The telegraphic report that Major Gilmer remained in Fort Henry with others, to cover the retreat of the Confederates, and subsequently surrendered to the enemy, is a mistake, so far as this latter particular is concerned.  A dispatch from the Major himself, dated at Clarksville, Saturday last, and announcing his safety, has been received by his family in this city.”

Maj. Gilmer is a native of this county, a brother of the Hon. John A. Gilmer.  His numerous friends here will rejoice to learn that the report of his being taken prisoner is untrue.
